Why not start with a photo of Tsagaglalal, “She Who Watches,” who has been watching over her people from a basaltic cliff above the Columbia River, situated within Columbia Hills State Park, Wishram, WA. This amazing rock art, both pictograph and petroglyph–having lasted centuries. (But that story will be a different posting.)<\/p>\n

Where to begin this electronic presence, this\u00a0practice of digital writing?<\/p>\n

When uncertainty strikes, I glance at\u00a0a\u00a0hand-written list my (then) 12 year old son, wrote-out for me (in his best cursive) on two small pages, torn from a\u00a0yellow scratch pad– listing\u00a0advice from musician\u00a0Wynton Marsalis, in\u00a0a\u00a0kid-friendly video we\u00a0checked-out from the library:\u00a0“Tackling the Monster: Wynton on Practice,” [VHS] (1995).<\/p>\n

In 1996 my son was practicing songs on\u00a0his\u00a0trumpet, as I was\u00a0practicing the art of writing poems.\u00a0 Wynton’s 12\u00a0Tips to Practicing<\/strong>\u00a0made sense to me –across all the\u00a0arts.\u00a0(to read more about\u00a0Wynton and his story,\u00a0there’s\u00a0an article published in The Education Digest, 1996, called\u00a0WYNTON\u02bcS 12 WAYS TO PRACTICE, FROM MUSIC TO SCHOOLWORK.)<\/em><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

2. Write out a\u00a0schedule<\/strong><\/p>\n

3. Set goals <\/strong><\/p>\n
